One out of three people lacks access to essential, affordable drugs or vaccines. Improving access to medicines could save 10 million lives each year. The Access to Medicine Index highlights efforts by drug companies to help close the gap and encourages them—and all other stakeholders—to do more.

Twenty Pharma Companies Included in 2008 Index

The Access to Medicine Foundation has completed its selection of the twenty pharmaceutical companies whose efforts to improve global access to medicines will be assessed in the 2008 Index. A number of biotech companies and generics producers are also included to construct a balanced distribution amongst the subsectors biotech, generics and research based pharma. more >

First Index Out in Summer of 2008

The first edition of the Access to Medicine Index is due in the summer of 2008. Until then, our researchers are sifting through the data. After applying weightings and carrying out careful analysis, they will create company reports which provide independent, impartial and reliable insight into efforts to help increase global access to drugs.

Global Investors Support the Index

Twelve investors, together managing assets worth more than USD 1.2 trillion, have signed the Investor Statement, demonstrating the impact the Access to Medicine Index has already had. Large investors like Morley and Henderson Global Investors say they “welcome the project’s efforts to develop a tool which [..] may be useful to assess the long-term value of pharmaceutical companies.” more >
